Everything You need to know Windows 7

I got this very interesting mail from my friend Varun Tripathi(Employed in Dell India)

Points to remember:

· Pin to task bar - Drag any applications to the task bar.

· Aero shake – shake the main window at the top and the rest windows minimize. Shake it again and it comes back to the previous state.

· Aero peak - Shows the complete page at the background if we place the pointer on a minimized tab.

· Jump list - Shows browsing history if you right click on any minimized application without opening it.

· Federated search – MSDN, Wikipedia, (preview the search results without connecting to the internet through stored cashe).

· Improved Network connection - Simplifies the process of connecting to a network.

· User accounts - comes with a slider if you want to be notified for any change made on the system and has 4 stages (elevation in vista).

· Separate menu to view the devices that are attached. (Recognizes the device make, model and color). Will show only the devices which have a BIOS chip.

· Easy options to use intranet.

· Place the mouse pointer at the top of a window and drag to the top end of the screen to maximize it. Hold and bring it a little to make the windows size smaller.

· A new preview pane added in all windows (highlight a file and the preview will show at the right hand side which is already loaded.

· Shows the preview of all the tabs by just placing the pointer when they are minimized.

· Hotkey for projecting picture on external monitor as well as TV with Win + P which is better than Fn +F8.

· Win 7 home basic or home premium (64 bit) can recognize up to 32GB of RAM.

· Ultimate edition of win 7(64 bit) can recognize up to 128GB of RAM.

· Win 7 is as faster as XP with better graphics.

· Minimum of 128 MB of graphics card is required for windows 7 to operate.

· Windows 7 comes with IE8 and Win Media Player 12.

· Through upgrade, selected applications will be migrated to win 7.

· Few programs like McAfee and adobe PSE will not be migrated.

· For face recognition, finger print and touch sensitive functions might not work after upgrade, software and drivers have to be reinstalled.

· Sound blaster patch has to be reinstalled.

· Handwriting recognition software is introduced in windows 7.

· Upgrade can only be done using the admin account provided the other user accounts are logged off.

· Snipping tool - Easy screen shot, just drag the pointer around the text of any error message or any other text and it immediately captures the text and opens it in a separate notepad without copying and pasting.

· Inprivate browsing when turned on will not save any cookies or history (ctrl+shift+p).

· Touch screen gestures is supported by IE8.

· Touch screen worked in IE7 only for the saved items.

· IE8 adapts to the finger gestures on screen (the way you touch it, lightly or hardly or the size of the finger).

· More pictures to set as the profile picture in the user accounts.

· Easier and better personalization (change desktop background with just two clicks).

· Changes background automatically if duration is set.

· DPI property helps increase the text and the page size to make the picture clearer when using an HD TV.

· The text can be made clearer manually but choosing from different samples or text (clear type text tuner)

· Repair my computer option will still be present thought the hdd is formatted or it’s not a factory image HDD.

· You can chose to have your own PC restore partition with all the applications you wish to have (VLC, ROXIO, and NERO ETC).

· Less compatibility issues.

· System repair disks can be created for recovery on any computer.

· Before system restore, the system notifies which application won’t work properly after system restore.

How to register –

· Win7.dell.com is the website for upgrade from windows vista to win 7.

· On the website, customer should first check windows 7 eligibility hyperlink.

· Few systems are not eligible as drivers for them are yet not available.

· Dell upgrade assistant disk is sent to the customers who register on the website.

· Register for upgrade option is not available for the retail customers.

· Customers have to contact the retailer who will provide them a different hyperlink.

Hotkeys –

· Zoom in and zoom out can be done by windows & “+” button and windows & “-“.

· Size of a page can be changed by Holing the windows key down and navigate using the up, down, left and right key.

· Gadgets can appear and disappear by pressing just windows + G.

· There is no sidebar or transparent demarcation in windows 7 and the gadgets can be moved anywhere on the screen independently.

· You can toggle between the minimized windows by windows + T.

· Shift+windows+1,2,3,4… will open the window that is minimized with the number sequence.
